The winner of F.P. Journe’s 2024 Young Talent watchmaking Competition has been announced. This year’s grand prize is awarded to Thomas Aubert, a 23-year-old graduate from the Lycée Edgar Faure Morteau school in France. His winning timepiece, Séléné, was conceptualized as his final school year project, where he explored the theme of curiosity — an emotion that has accompanied him through his pursuits in mechanical arts.
Presented in a 43mm stainless steel case, the watch face spotlights a silver dial that’s partially intersected with a tourbillon. Its name, Séléné, is borrowed from the name of the Greek goddess of the moon, whose name also symbolizes brilliance and purity. Aubert’s fascination with astronomy is further highlighted on the “non-dragging” caseback, where an engraving of the Pisces constellation can be observed.
The award ceremony took place in F.P. Journe’s Manufacture in Geneva, where the certificate was handed to Aubert by François-Paul Journe and Dr. Henry Tay, the founder of The Hour Glass.
