Spotify’s New AI Feature Transforms Text Prompts Into Playlists
Rolling out in beta in the UK and Australia.

Spotify has been dabbling with integrating AI into its platform over the past few years. Last year, it rolled out an AI DJ, which delivers tracks curated to the individual alongside commentary voiced in a replica of the artists’ voice.
The streaming service has now returned with a feature simply called AI Playlist. Users can input a text prompt and Spotify will churn out a playlist with songs matching the vibe.
Among the examples the platform gives are “an indie folk playlist to give my brain a big warm hug,” “relaxing music to tide me over during allergy season” and “a playlist that makes me feel like the main character.”
Along with specific situations, Spotify said that the text prompts can include places, animals, activities, movie characters, colors and emojis. It also noted that the “most successful playlists” make reference to traits specific to music, including “genres, moods, artists [and] decades.”
AI Playlist is currently in beta and is only available in the United Kingdom and Australia. To access the feature, users can head to the “Your Library” icon and click the “+” to add a playlist.
