J. Cole Apologizes to Kendrick Lamar, Says He’s Removing “7 Minute Drill” From Streaming
“I want to come up here and publicly say that was the lamest and goofiest sh*t.”

Armed with a heavy-hitting sixth track – “Like That,” which comes armed with one of the hardest-hitting diss bars as of late courtesy of Kendrick Lamar – Future and Metro Boomin‘s WE DON’T TRUST YOU catalyzed quite the beef that has held the internet and the industry at large in a chokehold. Erupting in what fans referred to as rap’s “Civil War,” J.Cole fired back to Lamar’s “Motherf*ck the big three, n***a, it’s just big me,” shot on Friday with a surprise project Might Delete Later, which came equipped with the Lamar-targeted “7 Minute Drill.”
While the internet stood divided over Cole’s unexpected fire-back, during his closing set at his Dreamville Festival, the rapper reflected on Might Delete Later – admitting he hasn’t been sleeping since the release of “7 Minute Drill” and will be removing the track from all DSPs.
“I’m so proud of that project except for one part,” he begins. “One part of that sh*t makes me feel like that’s the lamest sh*t I ever did in my f*cking life.”
“For the first time, I was tested. Why am I tested? Because I’ve got the world, and I’ve got my n*ggas like ‘What are you gonna do Cole?’ … I felt conflicted because I know I don’t really feel no way, but the world want to see blood.”
“I moved in a way that I spiritually feel bad on. I tried to jab my n***a back and keep it friendly, but at the end of the day, when I listen to it and when I see the talk, that sh*t don’t sit right with me with my spirit. That sh*t disrupts my f*cking peace. So what I want to say right here tonight, is that in the midst of me doing that – trying to find a little angle and downplay this n***a’s catalog and greatness – how many people here think Kendrick Lamar is one of the greatest motherf*ckers to ever touch the f*cking microphone?”
The crowd cheers as Cole continues: “Dreamville, y’all love Kendrick Lamar? As do I. I want to come up here and publicly say that was the lamest and goofiest sh*t … it made me feel like 10 years ago when I was moving incorrectly.”
Cole wraps up by sincerely apologizing to Lamar for the “misstep” – “I pray that my n***a didn’t feel no way, and if he did, I got my chin out. Take your best shot and I’ll take that sh*t on the chin, boy. Do what you do,” – as well as his fans.
