Billie Eilish took to Instagram on Monday morning to reveal her much-anticipated third studio album, Hit Me Hard And Soft. The record, slated to come out on May 17, will mark the artist’s first full-length release since 2021’s Happier Than Ever.

HIT ME HARD AND SOFT MY THIRD ALBUMMMMMMMMMMMMM COMES OUT MAY 17THHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH AHHHHHHHHHH,” she exclaimed on Instagram, under an image of the record’s official cover art, which sees Eilish falling underwater from a white door.

“So crazy to be writing this right now i’m nervyyyyy & exciteddd,” she added, before explaining that she will not put out lead singles ahead of release day. “Not doing singles i wanna give it to you all at once :PPP finneas and i truly could not be more proud of this album and we absolutely can’t wait for you to hear it. love you love you love you.”

The album’s official announcement comes after a string of cryptic teasers from Eilish. After several billboards popped up in global cities featuring the artist’s signature “blohsh” motif and snippets of supposed lyrics, including “Did I cross the line?,” “I try to live in black and white” and “She’s the headlights I’m the deer,” she opened her Instagram “Close Friends” Story to all of her followers, with mysterious images teasing the record.

In February of this year, Eilish confirmed that her forthcoming album had already been mastered, after she had teased the record’s arrival in September of last year: “There is a whole album of music coming. We’re in the final stages of making it, so that doesn’t mean it’s about to come out, but it is getting there and it’s very exciting.”
