Gunther Werks Remastered 1996 Porsche 911 To Fetch $1.3M USD at Auction

The very first example of Gunther Werks‘ “Chelsea Grey” Commission, a 1996 Porsche 911, has surfaced for auction via RM Sotheby’s at the debut ModaMiami event. This vehicle, a remastered example of Porsche’s highly coveted air-cooled 993-generation, is estimated to fetch as much as$1,300,000 USD at auction close.
Notably, Gunther Werks, based in Huntington Beach, California, has reimagined what the Porsche 993 could have become, blending modern engineering marvels with classic design elements. The company has extensively utilized carbon fiber throughout the vehicle, claiming that 80% of the interior is bespoke, with the remaining components sourced directly from new Porsche parts. The car’s suspension features advanced technology, including JRZ adjustable coilovers and a hydraulic front lift system, ensuring that its performance is as remarkable as its appearance.
Under the hood, the standard 3.6L engine has been transformed into a 4.0L powerhouse by Rothsport Road and Race, equipped with race-spec internals and a MoTec engine management system, pushing output beyond 400 hp. This power is deftly handled by an enhanced Getrag G50 six-speed transaxle, making the Chelsea Grey not just a showpiece but a formidable track competitor.
In a nod to Porsche’s racing heritage, the Chelsea Grey Commission features Carrera RS-inspired elements and a unique intake plenum. Its carbon fiber body is adorned in Chelsea Grey, a sophisticated color that further exaggerates its widened silhouette, complemented by deep-dish Fuchs-inspired wheels and a bespoke LED light bridge at the rear.
Inside the cabin, the Chelsea Grey is a luxurious blend of matte carbon fiber and red leather, with meticulous attention to detail evident in every component, from the sports seats to the Alcantara-trimmed headliner. Bidding for this special example, the first of just 25, is set to commence on Saturday, March 2, with registration open at the time of writing via RM Sotheby’s official site.
