Serena Williams Design Crew Pays Homage to Los Angeles With Nike Air Max 1
A nod to the namesake tennis star’s hometown.
Serena Williams Design Crew was founded three years ago as an incubator for emerging apparel and footwear designers. Guided by the tennis pro’s own bold style on and off the court, the Crew consists of ten designers working in partnership with Nike with specialties including graphic design, color design, footwear materials and more.
For its latest project, SWDC has reimagined the Nike Air Max 1 in their vision. True to Williams’ own manner of combining powerful silhouettes with feminine details. The pale pink shoe pays homage to her hometown city of Los Angeles with a subtle white angel wings graphic alongside the toe.
The upper features beige leather paneling alongside the pink suede, while the Nike logo is printed on the tongue in a darker shade of pink. A “W” on the back panel and rose gold adornments at the base of the laces and in eyelets finish out the shoe.
An exact release date for the SWDC x Nike Air Max 1 has yet to be revealed but the sneaker is expected to drop in 2024, along with other collection pieces from the collective.
