Maggie Rogers wrote her new album, Don’t Forget Me, over the course of just five days. While announcing the forthcoming project, the singer gave listeners a look into her process of putting together the body of work.

In making the LP, Rogers shared that she wrote two songs a day – three days in December 2022 and two in January 2023. Eight of those ten songs were co-written with her frequent collaborator, Ian Fitchuk. The other two were a product of Rogers’ friendship with Lee Foster, the manager of Electric Lady Studios, who the singer says gave her extra time to work on the music when she saw Rogers was on a roll.

“Some of the stories on this album are mine. And for the first time really, some of them are not,” Rogers said in her statement about the album. “The moments that are mine feel like memories – glimpses from college, details from when I was 18, 22, 28 (I’m 29 now). In writing the album sequentially, at some point a character emerged.”

She went on to describe the project as inspired by her picturing “a girl on a road trip through the American South and West. A sort of younger Thelma & Louise character who was leaving home and leaving a relationship, processing out loud, finding solace in her friends and in the promise of a new city and new landscape.”

Rogers and Fitchuk produced the album together and the majority of its tracks are first takes. The singer has released the titular single from the LP, “Don’t Forget Me.”
