Update: Nike Basketball continues to pay homage to Kobe Bryant’s legacy by offering Protro (performance retro) versions of his signature shoe line. As we near Kobe Bryant’s birthday (August 23), as well as Kobe Day (August 24), the brand has prepared its most ambitious Protro design to date, the Nike Kobe 3 Protro. While various previews of the shoe have been shared previously, Nike has officially outlined everything to expect from the revamped sneaker.

The shoe, which was originally inspired by basketball nets, sees its netting backed by mesh that offers a combination of containment and airflow. Meanwhile, new diamond geometry at the upper serve as a nod to Kobe’s eldest daughter, Natalia, whose middle name is Diamanté and appears in the marketing campaign that is embedded below. As for the modernized sole unit, its new design is informed by insights from athletes who experienced the original Kobe 3. A full-length Zoom Strobel replaces the smaller Air Zoom units of the past, combining with a Cushlon 3.0 midsole and an updated traction pattern for peak performance. Arriving as part of the third annual “Halo” drop, this all-white rendition of the shoe kicks off its comeback.

Look out for the Nike Kobe 3 Protro “Halo” to drop on August 23 via Nike SNKRS and select retailers at a starting price of $210 USD and stay tuned for info regarding future colorways.

Update: It’s nearly time for the Nike Kobe 3 to make its return in Protro form. Arriving as this year’s “Halo” release, the all-white rendition of the sneaker is dropping in less than two weeks. Ahead of the launch, we now have a complete set of images detailing what to expect from the shoe. As we discussed in our previous breakdown below, it has been modernized with performance-based upgrades, including a full-length Zoom Air Strobel paired with Cushlon 3.0 foam and a revamped mesh structure. Look out for the shoe to drop on August 23 via Nike SNKRS and select retailers at a starting price of $210 USD.

Update: Nike Basketball has slowly but surely brought back Kobe Bryant’s signature shoes in Protro form. One that has yet to see an upgrade is the Kobe 3, which was rumored late last year as the next model to be brought back. Now, a first look at the Kobe 3 Protro has leaked. While we lack any official details from the Swoosh, this early pair is accompanied by a pamphlet that outlines its various performance-oriented improvements. Its upper combines a revamped mesh package with new tongue padding. Meanwhile, the sole unit sees a full-length Zoom Air Strobel combine with Cushlon 3.0 foam and improved traction. As noted previously, it will debut as the third annual “Halo” launch, arriving on shelves via Nike SNKRS and select retailers on August 23 at a price of $210 USD.

Original Story: The complete return of the Nike Kobe franchise seems inevitable at this point. One after another, Nike Basketball has been revisiting the line’s classic silhouettes and colorways for the past few years since reigniting the partnership.

With the Kobe 9 Elite Protro having recently returned, a new report from sneaker insiders zSneakerHeadz and Sneaker Files indicates that the Kobe 3 Protro is the next design to be brought back. The unique shoe is now said to be dropping as part of the brand’s ongoing “Halo” series of all-white colorways, with it donning three layers of “White” per the early intel. While we don’t have a first look at the sneaker just yet, the mock-up pictured above is likely to accurately represent the design.

At the time of writing, Nike Basketball has not yet indicated that the Kobe 3 Protro will be returning in 2025 and the brand has yet to detail its future plans for the ongoing “Halo” series of colorways. Stay tuned for updates, including a first look at this rumored pair, as we currently expect it to drop on August 23, 2025 — the late Kobe Bryant’s birthday — via Nike SNKRS and select retailers at a starting price of $240 USD.
