A slip-on silhouette, the shoe takes a hybrid structure of sorts, combining the silhouette of a minimal mule with that of a sculptural Dutch clog – a highly intentional source of inspiration for Sterling Ruby.
“The maternal side of my family lives in the Netherlands, so I have visited countless times. I fondly remember my grandfather wearing clogs while working in his shop, making gardening tools that were painted bright green,” Ruby said in a press statement.
“I wanted to honor the tradition of Dutch clogs while pushing them into the future—creating a bold form that remains true to its roots.”

Original Story: S.R. STUDIO. LA. CA. and OTW by Vans revisit two of Vans’s most iconic silhouettes – the Old Skool 36 and Authentic 44 – in a joint capsule that channels Sterling Ruby’s signature artistic flair.
Both models are anchored by a vivid yellow canvas base doused in a marble-like pattern comprised of contrasting black blotches — evoking everything from paint splatters to microscopic oil slicks. This is paired with white-on-black laces, stamped with “S.R. STUDIO LA CA,” signifying its collaborative status.
Each silhouette retains its classic, unmodified construction, aside from the swap to Vibram outsoles for enhanced grip and longevity. The Old Skool 36 v features Vans’s molded toe cap and reinforced sidewalls, while the low-profile Authentic 44 delivers a streamlined, laceless toe box and foxing tape that echoes Ruby’s monochromatic contrasts.
