Google unveiled its 10th-generation Pixel lineup today during its Made by Google event hosted by Jimmy Fallon, where it introduced four new phones – the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro and 10 Pro XL and the foldable Pixel 10 Pro Fold – powered by its most advanced chip to date, the Google Tensor G5. The tech giant’s new four-phone lineup is also launching with the latest version of Google’s on-device AI, Gemini Nano, which the company says runs 2.6 times faster and twice as efficiently as before thanks to performance gains from the new Tensor G5 processor.
The Pixel 10 series will also debut a refreshed version of Android built on Google’s newly designed UI called Material 3 Expressive, one the company says will bring “more personalization and fluidity” to the user experience through “springy animations and smooth interactions.”
Described as “the most personalized, proactive and helpful Pixels ever,” the new lineup kicks off with the Pixel 10, an impressive entry-level device thst has a metal frame and a 6.3-inch Actua display capable of reaching a super-bright 3,000 nits. It comes in four colors – “Obsidian”, “Frost”, “Indigo” and “Lemongrass” – and Google says that it’s the Pixel phone on this tier to include a 5x telephoto lens. The camera system is described as having “fast autofocus” and a Super Res Zoom mode that provides 20x magnification.
Building on the Pixel 10, the prosumer-focused Pixel 10 Pro and Pixel 10 Pro XL models include all of this and more. Google describes the design of its Pro duo as the “most premium” Pixels yet, with the 10 Pro coming in at 6.3-inches and 10 Pro XL at the slightly larger 6.8-inches. The pair is launching in fan-favorite colors “Obsidian” and “Porcelain”, as well as two newly introduced colors the brand calls “Moonstone” and “Jade”. The camera system on both models is the best Google has ever delivered, with the Pro Res Zoom mode able to achieve “up to 100x zoom” and high-resolution 50MP photos.
Additionally, the Pro duo features the biggest batteries found on a Pixel device to date, a large 16GB of RAM as standard, and improved speakers. Google also says the its latest Pixels are the “first major Android phones” to support the relatively new Qi2 wireless charging standard, one that it is “fully embracing” by launching a new range of chargers and accessories called Pixelsnap.
Lastly, Google’s answer to the increasingly popular foldable phone trend arrives in the form of the Pixel 10 Pro Fold – its “most durable foldable yet.” Crafted from aerospace-grade aluminum, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold features a newly designed gearless hinge for improved durability – specifically, Google’s claims its new hinge is twice as durable as the one found on the Pixel 9 Pro Fold and “represents the best of Google engineering.” The foldable will also deliver “significant camera improvements” and, like the rest of the lineup, is powered by the Tensor G5 processor, making it primed and ready to handle day-to-day AI tasks.
However, the most notable feature of the Pixel 10 Pro Fold is perhaps its IP68 rating for water and dust resistance, something Google claims is “a first for a foldable device.” The company further states that its new foldable, which is constructed using ultra-thin glass and a double layer of anti-impact film, can “handle over 10 years of folding” – an impressive if somewhat vague metric. The 10 Pro Fold is launching in a choice of two colors: “Moonstone” and “Jade”.
Pre-orders for the Pixel 10 series start today with the Pixel 10 (£799 GBP / $799 USD), Pixel 10 Pro (£999 GBP / $999 USD) and Pixel 10 Pro XL (£1,199 GBP / $1,199 USD) launching on August 28, and the Pixel 10 Pro Fold (£1,749 GBP / $1,799 USD) on October 9.
