Russian actor Mark Eydelshteyn has officially been cast as the lead role in the second season of Amazon Prime Video‘s Mr. & Mrs. Smith. Eydelshteyn is the first member to be confirmed for the cast of the new season and is slated to appear as the titular role of Mr. Smith. Donald Glover, who remains on-board as executive producer of the show and the co-creator of the series, played Mr. Smith in the first season alongside Maya Erskine who played Mrs. Smith.

Eydelshteyn replaces Glover following the events of the first season. The official synopsis of the series description reads, “In the first season of Mr. & Mrs. Smith, two lonely strangers land jobs working for a mysterious spy agency that offers them a glorious life of espionage, wealth, world travels, and a dream brownstone in Manhattan. The catch? New identities in an arranged marriage as Mr. and Mrs. John and Jane Smith. Now hitched, John and Jane navigate a high-risk mission every week while also facing a new relationship milestone. Their complex cover story becomes even more complicated when they catch real feelings for each other. What’s riskier: espionage or marriage?”

Glover co-created the series, which is a spin-off of the 2005 film starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, with Francesca Sloane. Sloane is slated to return as executive producer and showrunner for the second season. Highly received by critics, garnering 16 Emmy nominations for the first season and later winning two for best stunt coordination for a drama and another for best guest actress in a drama for Michaela Cole. Stay tuned for more news on the second season of the series.
