HUF Celebrates Detroit's Finest With New J Dilla Collection
Featuring head-turning workwear, donut-shaped jewelry, honorary skate decks and more.
HUF has joined forces with the Estate of James “J Dilla” Yancey to celebrate the late producer, composer and rapper’s enduring legacy in hip-hop with a line of honorary workwear staples, custom accessories and skate decks.
“With a mix and samples and swing that spoke to his roots in Detroit and impeccable taste, James Dewitt Yancey changed hip-hop forever,” HUF wrote in a statement, citing the rapper’s early remix work with Janet Jackson, The Pharcyde, A Tribe Called Quest and more, as well as his Slum Village legacy and his 2006 solo album Donuts as prime examples of his prowess.
“Through his trademark production and songwriting, J Dilla changed the game from a humble basement studio in Detroit and his influence continues to resonate throughout the culture,” the brand added.
Toasting to J Dilla’s successes, the line features ‘”The Best That Ever Did It” T-shirts with photographs of the artist across the front and back, as well as mohair cardigans with “All songs produced by J Dilla” lettering. Elsewhere, the collection includes an honorary varsity jacket, a matching denim set, and sweaters printed with an all-over image of the rapper. Custom jewelry pieces are shaped like donuts, nodding to J Dilla’s independent record named after the sweet treat; while the skate decks employ identical imagery to the ready-to-wear line.
J Dilla’s longtime friend and collaborator J Rocc will team up with Black Noise and other guest DJs at a special event in Los Angeles to celebrate the collection this week.
The HUF x J Dilla collection will launch online and in stores on Thursday, November 14. Take a look at the lineup in the gallery above.
