Spouses Ray and Charles Eames have left an indelible mark on modern design with their forward-thinking yet highly human approach to mid-century design. The American designers’ massive archive of over 40,000+ furniture and objects is carefully maintained and documented by The Eames Institute of Infinite Curiosity. Now the organization continues to advance the Eames legacy by opening the archives to new audiences through a new print publication series “Artifacts from the Eames Collection.”

The first set of publications includes Toys and Play, Steinberg Meets The Eameses, Tables, The Eames Aluminum Group, Postcards, and Ray’s Hand.

Tables offers an in-depth review of table designs by the duo, a lesser-known category for the Eameses’ who are largely known for their seating designs like the “Eames Lounge Chair.” On the other hand, Toys and Play takes a rather unexpected and fun approach that documents the Eameses’ collection of toys that the couple surrounded themselves with throughout their lives.

Each of the softcover books will document the Eameses’ design work in a body of material from the Eames Office, Library of Congress, and the archives of Herman Miller and Vitra with essays by design historians and curators. With such a large breadth of work spanning multiple decades, breaking each focus into dedicated volumes provides the perfect platform to start a living and growing collection.

The books are available now at the official website of The Eames Institute.
