It’s not every day, or every year, or even every decade that Patek Philippe introduces a new range of watches. But today’s a special day in the watch world, as the Swiss brand has just revealed its all-new Cubitus collection — its first set of new models in 25 years.

Dubbed Ref. 5822P (blue/silver), Ref. 5821/1A (silver/green) and Ref. 5821/1AR (silver/gold) each model offers a square face with rounded corners for nods to the brand’s iconic Aquanaut and Nautilus lines. The references are even more direct upon closer inspection, with the watches’ dials boasting Nautilus-like horizontal bars and color schemes that seem to draw directly from the Nautilus Ref. 5711. According to Patek Philippe president Thierry Stern, these references were all done with direct intention.

“We did a lot different designs,” Stern told Bloomberg. “I said, ‘[Let's] go back to [our] roots, go back to [our] DNA. [We] have Aquanaut, [We] have Nautilus. I am going to use all of that to design the square watch.’”

Price-wise, the Ref. 5821/1A is the “entry-level” model in the line. Self-winding, it offers a stainless steel case and bracelet around its olive face, with a luxurious feel supplied by a mixture of satin and polished finishes. It’s priced at $41,244 USD. Next in line is the Ref. 5821/1AR, which is the same watch but constructed of both rose gold and stainless steel. It’s priced at $61,276. The most opulent model of the bunch is the Ref. 5822P, which boasts a platinum case, compsite strap and various subdials. It’ll set you back $88,317 USD.

“The target is to have a new audience without losing the [old] one,” Stern said, discussing the motives behind the new line. “This type of audience will be the young one who is starting their business, who are moving. Active people. I cannot only stay with the older client. I will not lose them, but I also know at one point they will be gone.”

Expect all three models to be available for order soon.
