‘Halo’ Developer 343 Industries Rebrands, Moves to Unreal Engine 5
Revealing it’s also working on several new games.
343 Industries, the developer behind Halo, has announced it’ll be rebranding to Halo Studios. The company also has several new games in the works and will be moving Halo over to Unreal Engine 5.
The studio was launched by Microsoft in 2007 after the original Halo developer Bungie split and became an independent company.
“If you really break Halo down, there have been two very distinct chapters. Chapter 1 – Bungie. Chapter 2 – 343 Industries. Now, I think we have an audience which is hungry for more. So we’re not just going to try to improve the efficiency of development, but change the recipe of how we make Halo games. So, we start a new chapter today,” Studio Head Pierre Hintze said.
After deciding to move Halo to Unreal from Slipspace, the studio has been working on what it calls Project Foundry, a multi-discipline research study on how they’ll build the game in the new engine. Halo Studios previewed the updated game, showing off extremely detailed environments from the Coldlands and Blightlands, as well as the armor-bearing Master Chief.
