Undercover FW24 Fashions David Lynch's 'Twin Peaks'

Lauding the American crime drama series, designer Jun Takahashi stamps his code-fusing silhouettes with scenes and motifs from the Emmy-winning show.

Undercover’s Fall/Winter 2024 collection draws from David Lynch’s dark-and-twisted American crime drama series, Twin Peaks. Designer Jun Takahashi secured official authorization to utilize the show’s title artwork, pivotal stills and signature motifs (like the Double R Diner!) all over his next-season fashions, which expand on Undercover’s exploratory universe with homage-making silhouettes across streetwear, workwear and formalwear.

The collection’s name, “Wonderful and Strange,” takes cues from an Agent Dale Cooper quote in the series: “I have no idea where this will lead us, but I have a definite feeling it will be a place both wonderful and strange.” The titular adjectives do a solid job of describing what the collection entails: on the one hand, there’s a bounty of fantastical jacquard pieces that will satisfy the fashion-minded Twin Peaks watcher; and on the other, Takahashi’s punkish design language defines a number of oddly fulfilling silhouettes.

Blazers house character portraits on their chests and waist-pockets, while formal trousers feature similar imagery just above the foot. Big trench coats mimic those worn by Cooper, and a varsity jacket dons patchwork inspired by the show’s locales. The latter design’s dense construction is surely enough to combat the logging town’s harsh climates, especially when layered over a grey hoodie.

Less literal pieces include puffers, coats, and casual pants finished with a black-and-white, tie-dye print, as well as a lime-green cardigan placed over a sweater in the same tone. Leather jackets appear in bomber and biker forms, and plaid becomes the star on flannel coats, cozy trousers and scarves. Rounding out the line, Takahashi, who only revealed his secret art practice to the world in August of last year, positioned a number of his own doodles on a down jacket and several shirts.
