WOOYOUNGMI FW24 Brings Seoul to Paris
Capitalizing on the growing K-wave and fascination with K-culture around the world.
WOOYOUNGMI has long been a staple during fashion week. Since the very beginning the label has brought Korean influences to the Paris Fashion Week stage. For Fall/Winter 2024, WOOYOUNGMI hones in on its roots, fuelled by the contemporary lens expanded by the globalization of K-culture.
This season, Madame Woo leans into her own account of Seoul, informed by local and foreign ideas of her hometown city’s life. As the city grows more into a global hub and becomes in constant conversation with the West, the dress codes of the South Korean capital city see contemporary influences that cross-pollinate between the Seoul and Parisian wardobe. Urban styles are fused together in the distinctive Seoulite way as oversized tailor coats are paired with baggy denim jeans.
The collection focuses on how it looks in movement and is envisioned on passers-bys on an everyday stroll through the vibrant streets of Seoul. Maintaining a somewhat formal attire with the blazers, neck tie and shirts, the collection is a nod to the businessman with his elongated coats and relaxed suits. Womenswear see a skirt-suit, blouse while prep and sportswear come together to find a medium between the uniform and scouts aesthetic. Through bojagi, the Korean art of tying knots, the technique is explored in hoodies, shirts and caps while coat of arms of South Korean families appear as surface decorations. The palette is reflective of Seoul’s ever changing landscape, seeing shades of grey, natural navy, dark greens and browns to match the cityscape.
