Watch André 3000 Perform "That Night In Hawaii When I Turned Into A Panther..." on 'The Late Show With Stephen Colbert'
And Colbert read the whole title.
On the heels of a surprise tour announcement yesterday morning, André 3000 took to the Stephen Colbert stage to deliver a dreamy live rendition of New Blue Sun cut “That Night In Hawaii When I Turned Into A Panther…” for the Late Show crowd.
Equipped with his flute, the musician performed the full ten-minute track to close out the show – with Colbert proudly pronouncing the track’s mouthful of a title. Indulge in the ethereal performance in the gallery above.
André also sat down with Colbert to share more about his inspirations behind the album. Colbert pointed to the album’s “No Bars” warning, asking André why he, a rapper revered for his bars, elected to drop a “no bars” album.
“It wasn’t a decision, like every other song we’ve ever done. It’s not a decision, you just do it. It just happened to have no bars on it.”
He also added that often at the airport, he will get stopped by security when traveling with his flute. “It looks like a weapon.”
