2020 McLaren Speedtail Number 69 Surfaces at Auction
In a rare Liquid Blue Silver finish and only showing 54 miles on the odometer.
The awe-inspiring McLaren Speedtail, an homage and 21st-century embodiment of the brand’s F1 supercar, is set to go under the hammer via RM Sotheby’s during its upcoming Arizona auction.
Limited to just 106 units, the example in question, number 69, sticks out for a few reasons, including its bespoke McLaren Special Operations (MSO) Liquid Blue Silver finish, tinted carbon-fiber weave, low mileage of 54 miles on the odometer and more.
Notably, the Speedtail embodies advanced technology and design, built around a lightweight carbon-fiber structure. It retains the signature three-person seating configuration of its predecessor, with the driver centrally positioned — in addition to the vertical dihedral doors further connecting it to its historic F1 lineage.
At the heart of the Speedtail lies an exhilarating hybrid powertrain, providing a 723 hp 4.0L twin-turbocharged V-8 engine, an evolution from the McLaren P1’s engine, complemented by a high-power electric motor. Together, they churn out an astonishing 1,035 hp, propelling the car to a top speed of 250 mph. It’s worth noting, the Speedtail’s battery is renowned for being the most power-dense ever fitted to a production vehicle.
The car’s design is indelible, with its elongated body, multi-link suspension and active aerodynamics being testaments to McLaren’s commitment to creating an unparalleled driving experience. The Speedtail also features a “Velocity Mode,” which optimizes the car for high-speed stability.
With an original price of approximately $2.726 million, this vehicle, in addition to its MSO paint, includes custom details like Thin Ply Technology carbon fiber and a unique color scheme for the calipers and wheels. According to the official lot, via RM Sotheby’s site, the auction house estimates that the 2020 McLaren Speedtail, example number 69, will likely fetch anywhere between $2,000,000 to $2,500,000 USD.
