OJAS and USM Modular Furniture Debut Unique 'Listening Room'
Located at USM’s Soho, New York flagship store and set to open to the public soon.
OJAS founder Devon Turnbull is a busy man: he recently completed one of his famed Listening Room exhibitions at London’s Lisson Gallery — even partnering with Blue Note to play the original reel-to-reel tapes of some of the jazz label’s most classic records — and now he’s teamed with USM Modular Furniture for another bespoke Listening Room project. Dubbed Ojas Listening Room at USM Modular Furniture, the new display is tucked into USM’s Soho, New York flagship, and was created so listeners can “experience a calming environment to contemplate music, liberated from the disruption of outside noise.”
The setup combines a fully bespoke OJAS speaker system in signature brutalist grey and black with USM Modular Furniture’s furniture, case goods and seating. Amps, speakers vinyl, audio magazines and other paraphernalia are on display behind the speaker setup for a visual accompaniment, while Kvadrat Acoustics was tapped to provide paneling that helps optimize the powerful system’s sound quality. The Ojas Listening Room at USM Modular Furniture is currently operating on an invite-only basis, but it’ll be open for public appointments starting September 18, and will be accompanied by both lectures and speaker-building “camps” from Turnbull. Besides the programming, Turnbull has curated a selection of goods from brands like Ortofon, Sun Audio, MJ Magazine and more for sale.
