Alongside the recent release of the Barbie film was its heavy-hitter-packed soundtrack – including the likes of Ice Spice, Nicki Minaj, Dua Lipa, PinkPantheress, Tame Impala, Billie Eilish and more. Just three weeks ago, Eilish released the music video for her soundtrack addition “What Was I Made For?” Now the experimental/dark-pop superstar has taken her track to the stage to perform it for the first time.

Taking place at Lollapalooza 2023, Eilish’s live debut of the track aptly captures what director Greta Gerwig would describe as “Barbie’s heart song.” With a contemplative and slightly melancholy tune, the track discusses feelings of purpose and agency – a key theme in the film as Barbie wrestles with the aforementioned. When the track first begins to play, the crowd bursts out into a roar in complete shock. Throughout the video, attendees are seen singing the track word for word alongside some teary eyes. It is clear that Eilish connected with her fan base even more on the latest track as the feelings discussed are widely discussed throughout society – making it undeniably relatable.

Take a look at Billie Eilish’s live performance debut of “What Was I Made For?” in the video above.
