Unsurprisingly, Twitter isn’t happy about the launch of Meta’s new text-based social media platform. Threads debuted earlier this week, immediately following the news that Twitter users would receive a cap on how many tweets they can view in a day.

A lawyer for Twitter has now sent a letter to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg accusing it of illegally appropriating trade secrets, according to Semafor.

In the letter, company lawyer Alex Spiro accuses Meta of “systematic, willful, and unlawful misappropriation of Twitter’s trade secrets and other intellectual property.”

“Twitter intends to strictly enforce its intellectual property rights, and demands that Meta take immediate steps to stop using any Twitter trade secrets or other highly confidential information,” Spiro wrote in the letter, according to a copy obtained by Semafor. “Twitter reserves all rights, including, but not limited to, the right to seek both civil remedies and injunctive relief without further notice to prevent any further retention, disclosure, or use of its intellectual property by Meta.”

The lawyer additionally accuses Meta of hiring former Twitter employees, who allegedly had access to confidential company secrets. A Meta source, however, told the publication that no former Twitter employees worked on Threads.
