Netflix is beginning to put its gears into motion for The Chronicles of Narnia. The film and TV rights to the highly popular and nostalgic series by C.S. Lewis was purchased by the streaming giant in 2018 and now reports from sources have told The Hollywood Reporter that they have tapped Greta Gerwig as the director for two films.

While there has yet to be an official announcement made, it has long been rumored that Gerwig will be directing and writing the Narnia story. The project follows Gerwig’s soon to be in theaters, highly-anticipated Warner Bros. Barbie movie. When Netflix acquired the series’ rights, they discussed the ambitions of a Narnia franchise. At the time, Ted Sarandos said, “Families have fallen in love with characters like Aslan and the entire world of Narnia, and we’re thrilled to be their home for years to come.”

With Narnia, Gerwig continues to build her portfolio of big-budget filmmaking. The director has had a penchant for adaptations, making her directorial debut with Oscar-nominated Lady Bird, Little Women and coming to theaters this summer, Barbie.

Stay tuned for more information.
