Elon Musk Has Limited How Many Tweets Users Can Read a Day

Citing “extreme levels of data scraping and system manipulation” as justification.

Since purchasing Twitter last year, Elon Musk has made his presence on the platform known through a constant stream of actions taken to revitalize the social media site. As a result, Twitter is now said to be only worth a third of its purchase price from last year. However, Musk continues to double, triple and quadruple-down on his ideas by remaining committed to doing the unpredictable. Now, for his latest move, Musk has limited the amount of tweets viewable by users each day, including verified accounts.

In an attempt to thwart “extreme levels of data scraping and system manipulation,” Musk has implemented view limits that began at 6,000 posts a day for verified accounts, 600 posts for unverified users and 300 for new unverified accounts. Since then, he’s raised the limits twice, landing them at 10,000, 1,000 and 500 respectively at the time of writing. In addition to this, Twitter no longer allows access to the site for users who aren’t logged in, forcing new sign-ups.

As expected, many are dissatisfied with the new changes and have began looking to alternative platforms, which soon may include Meta’s own version of Twitter.

For more of the latest news from the tech industry, Meta has explained how its usage of AI determines personal algorithms on both Facebook and Instagram.
