8BitDo Revives SNK’s Classic Neo Geo Joystick Controller
Replicating the feel of the original device.
8BitDo is known for celebrating classic hardware, from debuting its own vintage-inspired controllers to developing mod kits that make older hardware compatible with the Nintendo Switch.
For its latest project, the tech company has redesigned the NSK Neo Geo controller, a project that it says took three years to carry out. Originally made by Japanese company SNK, the Neo Geo line debuted in 1994 before ultimately being discontinued a decade later.
The new controller features a click-style joystick that 8BitDo says “feels just like the original” and functions for Windows and Android, as well as the Neo Geo mini. It also has shoulder buttons on the left and right sides, a button layout swap and additional bumpers. While the controller is Bluetooth enabled, it can be hooked up to the Neo Geo via a 2.4G adapter and USB cable, included with the device.
The controller isn’t available quite yet, though. Priced at $35 USD, the controller can be pre-ordered now ahead of its release on August 15.
