Saint Laurent and Girard-Perregaux have come together to launch a limited edition digital watch. The French luxury house reimagines the classic wristpiece, the Casquette, which was initially launched in 1976. Back in the day, the watch was considered to be a revolutionary for the premium Swiss manufacture and it was not just for the fact that it was a digital display with quartz movement in a boxy case design. When it hit the market between 1976 to 1978, the company only produced a limited 8,000 run which later turned into a cult favorite.

Now, with the help of Saint Laurent, the Casquette has been reinterpreted for its 2.0 version. The recent resurgence of retro meets modern sees the watch revived by Anthony Vaccarello. Maintaining the watch’s original “disruptive” persona, the latest version takes a more practical approach. Changing the design from the original avant-garde model, the watch features a tubular LED display with a quartz movement, keeping with the watchmaking zeitgeist of the 1970s. Vaccarello’s version re-edits the model with black ceramic and black PVD-treated grade 5 titanium.

For added comfort, the watch has a light, ergonomic case that arches to the shape of the wrist. The digital watch is also equipped with a chronograph and has the ability to display the time in a different location. The Casquette 2.0 Saint-Laurent 01 will be available only at Saint Laurent Rive Droite locations in Paris and Los Angeles as well as online through the official Saint Laurent Rive Droite site for $6,700 USD. The offering is limited to 100 pieces.
