Off-White™ Resort 2024 Is Ib Kamara's "Homecoming"
Going back to the brand’s fundamentals.
When Ib Kamara presented his debut Off-White™ collection for Fall/Winter 2023, the creative visionary took audiences and on-lookers on a journey to the moon via Sierra Leone. Now, in his Resort 2024 collection, Kamara returns to the roots of the label all while continuing to tell the story through the ever-changing 21st century ideals and cultural spaces.
In a conversation with Vogue Kamara tells audiences that the collection is titled “Homecoming.” He explains, “It’s bout going back to Off-White fundamentals. And also I wanted to do a collection that has an American sensibility…As an indigenous African, I explored my take on an American perspective, and how we can link that to the first people of America.” Kamara was able to do so by incorporating western tropes through tailoring and even a nod to the cowboy aesthetic with the silhouettes.
With movement always at the forefront of his designs, Kamara paired rib-jersey vests with lace, all hybridized into womenswear pieces that draped over the body to accentuate the feminine curves. In menswear, Kamara continues to focus on the over-the-top boxy blazer and trouser combination. As a nod to the Off-White™ x Chicago Bulls capsule, which Kamara said kicked off his identity at the brand, the designer gave a nod to Michael Jordan with a No. 23 detailed on the pieces. Kamara continues to be playful with layering, combining oversized denim and gabardine field jackets to help reinterpret the brand’s iconic four-arrow logo. Staying true to the fundamentals that Virgil Abloh set forward with the label, Kamara make it a note to continue to “exploring beautiful clothes that you want to wear.”
