UPDATE: Following an initial sneak peek, DTLR has revealed official imagery of its forthcoming New Balance 2002R “Lovers Only” collaboration.
Dedicated to the state of Virginia, the pair features a grey mesh base and boasts tonal suede overlays across the mudguards and medial panels. Black detailing runs through the toe boxes, heels, and partial quarter sections, while standard “N” logos see connecting blue and red outlines.
Below the ankles, you’ll find model-specific branding in red next to blue and yellow rear pipping. Co-branded tongues and insoles complete the design atop white, yellowed, and grey midsoles.
The DTLR x New Balance 2002R “Lovers Only” will drop excluievly via DTLR on May 26 in full family sizing for $165 USD.
DTLR is no stranger to collaboration, having worked with New Balance on numerous footwear projects. The duo has dressed the 990v3, 992, and 2002R in many state-tribute makeups, now grasping the latter for a Virgina-inspired take.
The retailer has given a first glimpse at its upcoming design, teasing the pair on the southeastern US highway. Pictured aside the state’s welcome sign, the 2002R is clad in a white, black, and red palette reminiscent of the “Virginia Is For Lovers” slogan.
The collaboration appears with a predominantly white build, featuring red leather accents on the heels, black toe box detailing, and outlined “N” insignia. Dual-tinted tongues and rear tabs sport Virginia-specific branding, emerging with possible pouch extensions on the former.
While no release information has been revealed, the DTLR x New Balance 2002R “Virginia Is For Lovers” will surely tell a compelling story of its local community.
Take a closer look at the partnership above. More information on the pair will be revealed on May 26.
