Disney+ Seeks To Raise Price of Ad-Free Subscription Tier
CEO Bob Iger detailed the potential hike during the streamer’s latest earnings call.
Disney+ will most likely be raising the prices for its ad-free subscription tier later this year. According to the company’s latest earnings call, it’s seeking to bump up the cost of the subscription for the second time within 12 months.
“The pricing changes we’ve already implemented have proven successful. And we plan to set a higher price for our ad-free tier later this year to better reflect the value of our content offerings,” CEO Bob Iger said on the company call, according to a transcript published by The Motley Fool.
In December, Disney+ raised the cost of its ad-free streaming subscription from $8 USD per month to $11 USD. It also launched the new option to stream with ads for $8 USD monthly.
Iger also noted that, in the future, the streamer should seek to continue “optimizing [its] pricing model to reward loyalty” along with driving growth for the new lower-cost ad-supported tier.
