In celebrating the 70th anniversary of the original Ref. 765 AVI timepiece, also known as the Co-Pilot, Breitling has dropped three new references inspired by the iconic model, spanning a Classic AVI collection, a Super AVI Mosquito Night Fighter watch, and a limited 1964 re-edition.

From the assortment, the new Classic AVI lineup arrives in five versions, all in dedicated color schemes that nod to four legendary aircraft. Spanning two variations of the P-51 Mustang, one iteration comes encased in stainless steel with a black dial and tonal counters, while the other option is attired in an 18k red gold case with contrasting counters. The remaining three all are housed in stainless steel cases, with the Tribute to Vought F4U Corsair featuring a blue dial with tonal counters, the Curtiss Warhawk with a military green dial and white counters, and the black-dialed Mosquito option with contrasting white counters.

The Classic AVI collection arrives in a 42mm case size, a significantly smaller size in comparison to the original 46mm. As for aesthetics, it remains faithful to the celebrated reference’s rugged design, accompanied by nuanced, upgraded details, on top of a much easier-to-wear-fit. The GMT complication has been omitted, instead, the new versions are equipped with Breitling’s own Calibre 23 chronograph movement, which provides up to 48 hours of power reserve and a 10-bar water resistance. Each model comes with the option of a pilot-inspired calfskin leather strap, or a five-row stainless steel bracelet.

Drawing its reference from the all-black two-seater Night Fighter 2, the Super AVI Mosquito Night Fighter watch pays homage to the aircraft’s dark livery with an all-black design. Running inside, the in-house B04 self-winding mechanical movement offers 70 hours of power reserve, all housed in a sturdy 46mm ceramic case.

Last but not least, Breitling welcomes a limited re-edition of its original Ref. 765 AVI from 1964, which was a favorite amongst star athletes and celebrities of its time. A faithful reproduction of its original, the timepiece is outfitted with the iconic reverse-panda dial and black bezel, all attired in a 41mm stainless steel case. Now powered by Breitling’s in-house B09 calibre, the watch is released in a limited run of 164 pieces.
