Netflix's 'The Witcher' Renewed for Season 5
Casting director Sophie Holland adds that they are about to begin filming for season four.
Netflix has officially renewed The Witcher for a fifth season.
The news was confirmed by casting director Sophie Holland, who is also working on the likes of The Continental, Heads Of State and the Beetlejuice sequel. She revealed to Variety, “We’re just about to start filming on season four with Liam Hemsworth and there will be a short gap then we go straight into season five.”
The upcoming third season of The Witcher, which makes it part one premiere this June, will be Henry Cavill‘s last ride as Geralt of Rivia before he is replaced by Liam Hemsworth. When asked if she was “surprised” about Cavill’s departure from the role, Holland answered, “I probably won’t comment on that one. I’d love to, but I won’t.” She added, “I really look forward to seeing what Liam brings. He has a big fan base. Season four will be a nice mix of new characters and returning faces.”
Cavill’s exit from the series and Hemsworth’s replacement were both announced in late 2022, although the former did not give a reason for his departure. “My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with both monsters and adventures, and alas, I will be laying down my medallion and my swords for Season 4,” Cavill wrote on Instagram. “In my stead, the fantastic Mr Liam Hemsworth will be taking up the mantle of the White Wolf. As with the greatest of literary characters, I pass the torch with reverence for the time spent embodying Geralt and enthusiasm to see Liam’s take on this most fascinating and nuanced of men. Liam, good sir, this character has such a wonderful depth to him, enjoy diving in and seeing what you can find.”
The Witcher season three, part one premieres June 29 on Netflix.
