Mark Zuckerberg — CEO of Meta — has just announced that its paid verification program has just launched in Instagram and Facebook in the US. “You can get a badge, proactive impersonation protection and direct access to customer support,” he stated on Friday in the Meta Channel on Instagram. The initiative arrives after Tesla CEO Elon Musk revealed its plans to charge $8 USD a month for its users to get verified on Twitter.

The subscription service costs a monthly fee of costs $11.99 per month on the web and $14.99 per month on mobile and was initially rolled out in Australia and New Zealand and granted users the blue check mark adjacent to their handles and names. Those who are already verified on Instagram and Facebook won’t have to pay for their verification.

Before getting verified, users must be at least 18 years old and complete verification process. Meta will need proof of your identity by having you submit a a government-issued photo ID and follow the two-factor authentication. Meta Verified subscribers will not be able to alter their profile name, username, photo or date of birth unless they are inclined to go through the verification process again. Currently, there is a waitlist for the subscription service online that is now open for sign-ups.
