Off-White™ Pre-Fall 2023 Presents Ib Kamara's Penchant for Sleek Tailoring
The first pre-collection unveiled under Ib Kamara’s lead.
Ib Kamara delivers his first Pre-Fall collection for the 2023 season for Off-White™. This time, there is an evident focus on meticulous details to inform the refined and sleek silhouettes for the pre-collection.
WWD spoke with Kamara regarding his first pre-collection as the new art and image director of Off-White™, who discusses how he came about his “Lunar Shipping” theme. Fascinated by the idea of human nature nowadays, always on the go, the collection continues to build off of Off-White’s fundamentally “cool and young thinking” for elevated, practical pieces. The collection sees an additional sense of formality that informs the upcoming season, featuring an elegant lineup that gives a nod to how the brand has evolved to have a refined aesthetic over the past few years.
While the tailored pieces are elevated from the oversized and baggy proportions, the label stays true to its streetwear roots, bringing in motocross jackets in premium leather and varsity jacket-inspired silhouettes paired with pleated trousers and asymmetric skirts that bring attention to how the pieces move with every step. Technical details include utilitarian-focused buckles and removable harnesses that give formal tailoring the Off-White touch. Exaggerated graphics are still quite prominent in classic wardrobe staples like hoodies, vests and t-shirts. Never a brand to conform to traditions, menswear trousers are paired with pleated skirts and trouser shorts feature zipper highlights as embellishments. The baggy formal trousers leave room for versatility with their multi-pocketed aesthetic taken from cargo pants.
