Yin-Yang Philosophy Inspires the "Black/White" CLOT x Nike "CLOTEZ"
The most essential expression of Tai Chi reimagines the iconic Cortez.
Building on early looks, CLOT has now shared an official look at its take on the iconic Nike Cortez. Dubbed the CLOT x Nike “CLOTEZ,” the collaboration builds on the storied fashion label’s mission of nurturing new voices in China. CLOT Founder and Creative Director Edison Chen worked with aspiring designer Harry Wong to create a 3-in-1 design inspired by the yin-yang philosophy.
Chen first met Harry Wong in 2018 at the Nike: On Air contest, the Air Max design titled “Kung Fu Soul” by the contestant served as the original base for the CLOT x Nike Cortez “CLOTEZ”
Debuting in a clean “Black/White” colorway, the most essential expression of Tai Chi is explored with a focus on the fluidity and change in the ancient martial art. The yin-yang symbol is reimagined as a transformable design that encapsulates a kung fu shoe-inspired silhouette.
The 3-in-1 CLOT x Nike “CLOTEZ” starts with an indoor house shoe based on the design of the Cortez. The shoe features premium white leather uppers, contrasting black Swooshes, and nylon tongues. Additional detailing comes in the form of tongue tags, and Chinese characters “功” and “夫” (kung Fu) embroidered at the heels.
The accompanying slip-on to be worn on the inner shoe comes in matte black and resembles traditional kung fu apparel. Aside from serrated outsoles, the slip-on also features drawstring fastenings with the yin-yang symbol. Finally, each “CLOTEZ” comes complete with a detachable insole for the slip-on for extra comfort.
Priced at $140 USD, the “Black/White” CLOT x Nike Cortez “CLOTEZ” is set to officially be released February 10 via JUICE globally.
