Hatton Labs' Jewelry Straddles Love and Pain for SS23
The collection is inspired by the work of William Shakespeare.
For Spring/Summer 2023, contemporary jewelry brand Hatton Labs was galvanized by the iconic stories of William Shakespeare. Designed in the imprint’s London studio, the collection, titled “Good Night,” centers on the conflict between two of the English playwright’s central motifs: love and pain.
Inside the range, myriad design icons communicate the aforementioned tension in a shimmering fashion. Hand-casted silver rose flower elements appear with love on the brain, next to heart silhouettes on custom mariner links, which the brand includes as a nod to Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo + Juliet. On the contrary, vicious pointed thorn designs appear across the collection, depicting the painful plotlines that oftentimes boil to the surface of Shakespeare’s works.
On the fore of Hatton Labs’ agenda is challenging the status quo. “In a time when personal styles are becoming more and more gender non-conforming, where men are becoming further inspired by feminine forms and motifs and women by even harsher male motifs, the exploration and combination of these two parallels is more interesting than to explore and test than ever before,” the brand explained in a statement. “We wanted to reimagine these historically classic feminine iconography styles by reimagining its application in a far more modern, forward-thinking and androgynous way.”
