adidas Takes the Stan Smith to New Heights With Platform Model
Unveiling the adidas Stan Smith PF.
adidas has delivered new takes on the Stan Smith time and time again since the original shoe rolled out in the 1960s. For its latest twist on the flagship model, designers have elevated the Stan Smith with a platform sole.
The adidas Stan Smith PF shoes (presumably standing for “platform”) bear all the makings of the classic silhouette with a raised rubber midsole. The shoe has a white body punctuated with the model’s distinct three–line perforated pattern. As for color options, the Stan Smith PF is available with heel tabs in either green or black.
The cream-colored midsole stands out not only for its height but also due to its rounded, nearly clay-like look. In fact, it looks strikingly similar to Alexander McQueen’s take on the model, which the luxury brand called its “Oversized Larry Bicolor Leather Low-Top Sneakers.”
By releasing its own platform model – and one that looks particularly similar to McQueen’s – it seems adidas is angling to laud the OG Stan Smith amid all the replica versions that have popped up over the years.
If that’s adidas’ plan, it seems to be working. The adidas Stan Smith PF comes in women’s sizing and is already sold out online in several size options.
