AAPE Taps ‘90s Hip-Hop Style and Retro Sportswear for Fall/Winter 2023 Collection
Through the brand’s heritage and lasting streetwear presence, the latest collection boasts bold graffiti prints, skate styles, and relaxed silhouettes.
AAPE has its finger on the pulse of popular culture for its Fall/Winter 2023 collection. Though the range maintains the brand’s on-trend, utilitarian heritage, it is informed by four major themes: AAPE Hip Hop, AAPE Skate, AAPE College, and AAPE Team.
From the re-emergence of skater-approved baggy denim to varsity jackets being sported on the runway, each of these thematic elements taps into the many ways that youth culture has chosen to express themselves through time. When it comes to head-turning, graphic streetwear, the skating, hip-hop, collegiate, and sports realms have been heavily impactful and this collection pulls certain referential accents or motifs from each of these categories.

Within the AAPE Skate series, the brand blends iconic American streetwear with a sense of understated luxury. Graffiti and hand-drawn forms decorate shirt jackets and cardigans, while certain technical innovations, including textured camouflage denim and heavy water washing, elevate the designs. A bright color palette, featuring cyan blue and lemon yellow, honors the unapologetic subculture that this range nods to. Similarly, the AAPE Hip Hop series incorporates freeform artistic graphics and graffiti-style prints, but upon a more subdued, earthy color scheme. A unique SPRAY CAMO print is displayed across certain garments, as well as the use of novel textiles, such as faux leather.
Collegiate-inspired streetwear has hit the scene as a laid back style staple, so the third theme that AAPE incorporated into its Fall/Winter 2023 collection is AAPE College. Implementing team badge patterns and classic color combinations, the collection’s varsity-inspired pieces call to ‘90s American campus culture. Key pieces include basketball jackets, tracksuits, sweat sets, and knits in navy blue, maroon, and forest green tones.
The fourth and final category touched upon within this range is AAPE Team, which brings forth futuristic shapes and multidimensional silhouettes. Drawing from sci-fi aesthetics, this theme juxtaposes flashy, infrared-inspired yellows, oranges, and reds, with neutrals. Practical styles are showcased, from parachute pants to reversible work jackets. Many of the AAPE Team designs take a page out of popular sportswear’s book as well, playing up functional dressing and comfortable, relaxed fits.
Aside from its catalog of quality apparel, AAPE is known for its edgy yet accessible stores that perfectly complement its products. Continuing its expansion, AAPE has planted its feet across the world — with new stores in cities like Dubai, Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong, and Beijing. Now the brand has revealed its upcoming plans of newest stores in Kyoto and Shenzhen in 2024.
