Nicole McLaughlin and Merrell 1TRL Officially Announce Their "Moc-Laughlin" Collaboration
Dropping early at DSM before a global release at the top of December.
Designer Nicole McLaughlin’s unique blend of upcycling, vintage, thrift and gorp has made her an A-lister in the world of sneaker collaborations. Since 2020, McLaughlin has worked with (in order) Crocs, Reebok, Diemme, Vans and HOKA, and now she’s bringing her singular perspective to the world of Merrell 1TRL, creating three colorways of a slip-on silhouette that’s playfully dubbed the “Moc-Laughlin.”
First revealed via the Merrell 1TRL showroom at Paris Fashion Week earlier in 2023, the “Moc-Laughlin” pulls its inspiration from both McLaughlin’s childhood (her father was an avid Jungle Moc fan) and her own fascination with digging up vintage Merrells at thrift stores and on eBay. The silhouette is inspired by the Moc Speed Streak, a previously-forgotten women’s model, and is done up in three colorways: “Black/Amber,” an original Moc Speed Streak scheme, “Birch/Hiviz” and “Coyote/Olive.” All three styles feature intricate ’00s-style paneling for a retrofuturistic look, small “NM” branded hits and a classically chunky Merrell midsole. Sustainability is another passion of McLaughlin’s, so the “Moc-Laughlin” utilizes circular materials like premium recycled suede and mesh.
Expect all three colorways of the Nicole McLaughlin x Merrell 1TRL “Moc-Laughlin” to release via Dover Street Market on November 24 before a global release via Merrell 1TRL and select stockists on December 1.
