Major Companies Like Disney, Lionsgate, IBM and More Pull Ads From Elon Musk's X

Since Elon Musk‘s acquisition of X, he has been quite public about increasing revenues on the platform through ads. Now, some of the world’s biggest companies like Disney, Warner Bros. Discovery, IBM, Lionsgate and more have all pulled ads from X following Musk’s antisemitic remarks.

Lionsgate’s spokesperson released a statement on Friday that confirmed the company “has suspended advertising on X because of Elon Musk’s recent antisemitic tweet.” This come shortly after Lionsgate is in the midst of marketing the release of The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. IBM also released a statement that said that it would “immediately suspended all advertising on X while we investigate this entirely unacceptable situation.” Other companies like Disney and Warner Bros. Discovery have followed suit, putting a pause on their ads on X. Apple has also pulled its advertising from X, one of the industry’s most influential marketers.

The antisemitic comments from Musk were pertaining to his support of a statement posted by another user that suggested “western Jewish populations” were “coming to the disturbing realization that those hordes of minorities that support flooding their country don’t exactly like them too much.” Musk reposted the comment and even added, “you have said the actual truth.” Recently the White House and the European Commission have expressed a hard stance against X. The Commission said, “We have seen an alarming increase in disinformation and hate speech on several social media platforms in recent weeks, and X is certainly quite effective of that.” The White House’s statement also said, “We condemn this abhorrent promotion of antisemitic and racist hate in the strongest terms, which runs against our core values as Americans.”
