Netflix Merges Formula 1 and 'Full Swing' in Live Sports Debut, 'The Netflix Cup'
Watch live as your favorite Formula 1 drivers face off against revered PGA TOUR golfers in an 18-hole tournament.
Ever wondered how the Formula 1: Drive to Survive stars would fare against the cast of Full Swing in a live-streamed golf tournament? Look no further. Bolstering Netflix‘s debut in the live sporting space is The Netflix Cup, which sees Formula 1 drivers Alex Albon, Pierre Gasly, Lando Norris and Carlos Sainz face off against PGA TOUR golfers Rickie Fowler, Max Homa, Collin Morikawa and Justin Thomas on an 18-hole, championship golf course, properly kicking off the week of the inaugural Formula 1 Heineken Silver Las Vegas Grand Prix.
The tournament – which goes down at Las Vegas’s Wynn Golf Club on November 14 – will see the athletes paired off in teams of two, consisting of one driver and one golfer. Teams will go head-to-head in an eight-hole match (what Netflix is referring to as a “clash of wheels and irons”) with the winning two teams advancing to the final hole and a chance to win the first-ever Netflix Cup title. “We love to see how our sports series have brought increased fandom to sports leagues and competitions all over the world,” said Gabe Spitzer, Netflix’s Vice President of Nonfiction Sports in a press release. “The Netflix Cup will take that energy to the next level with global stars from two popular hits competing in our first-ever live sports event.”
The Netflix Cup is slated to stream live on the platform on November 14 at 3 p.m. PST.
