Y-3 Combines Surprise Technical Elements With Understated Class for FW23
Featuring drawstring detailing and a new conceptual adidas sneaker.
Y-3 has just presented its brand-new installment for Fall/Winter 2023 and it’s a collection packed with surprise technical elements and subtle sports influences.
Starting with a selection of footwear, the stand-out comes in the form of the new adidas sample shoe. Featuring a curved silhouette, the sneaker takes inspiration from the adidas Originals Superstar on the upper, with its customary Three Stripe branding on the lateral side complemented by a raised and chunky sole unit — similar to the recently-dropped Y-3 x adidas Hicho sneaker from last year.
Furthermore, FW23 also welcomes a pleasant combination of contemporary with streetwear influence. For example, some looks combine free-flowing blazer designs with parachute track bottoms. Additionally, the collection includes technical elements across a slew of its designs; such as an assemblage of hidden pockets that can be spotted on lightweight button-up shirts and combat-inspired trousers.
What’s more, is that the garments have integrated drawstring detailing across several quilted jackets and skirts. Highlights come in the form of a quilted knee-length coat and utility vest, while snap buttons are used for thin gilet designs. Color schemes also tap into a selection of vivid hues across jackets that are both cleanly-fitted, or sometimes comfortably oversized. However, in total, each style falls effortlessly and comes together with one another as it should.
As a whole, the collection is a smooth mix of both in-your-face and understated. And while it’s difficult to pinpoint whether the collection fits just under the sportswear, streetwear, or contemporary umbrella, it ticks all of the above. The collection pushes the boundaries of an experimental outlook — in true Y-3 fashion.
