This week, fashion looked to the future. The Fall/Winter 2023 men’s shows in Milan came to a close, promising a campy and well-tailored wardrobe for the warmer months; and the runways in Paris kicked off for the same season. Dior officially signed on BTS’ Jimin as a global ambassador, which was not-so-shockingly met with much excitement; and Christie’s announced that it will host an auction for the late great André Leon Talley’s personal treasures. Elsewhere, Colm Dillane revealed that he’s planning a star-studded comedy show for KidSuper FW23; Vogue announced the co-chair for the 2023 Met Gala, and Aries debuted a photo zine with Mia Khalifa.

Below, Hypebeast has rounded up the top fashion stories of the week so you can stay up to date on trends in the industry.

Dior Officially Announced BTS Singer Jimin as Its Global Ambassador

BTS member Jimin is the latest singer to land a global ambassadorship with Dior.

Arguably one of the most famous K-pop singers, Jimin has held a longstanding relationship with Dior as part of BTS. According to WWD, the group’s connection to Dior was first established in 2019, when menswear director Kim Jones crafted the stage looks for the group’s Love Yourself: Speak Yourself world tour.

This is not the first time that Dior has tapped into the ever-so-powerful market of K-Pop stars. The French brand previously signed BlackPink’s Jisoo as a global fashion and beauty ambassador. Today, Jimin joins Dior’s menswear ambassador roster alongside Sehun and Cha Eunwoo.

André Leon Talley’s Personal Collection Will Head to Auction at Christie’s

One year following his passing, André Leon Talley‘s personal treasures are heading to auction at Christie’s.

Remembered as one of fashion’s greatest editors and creative visionaries, Talley had exquisite taste. His personal collection has range, containing the finest haute couture garments, jewelry, handbags, fine art and more. Among them, a collection of the editor’s signature caftans stands out, appearing in elaborate silk, cotton batik and velvet textiles with glamorous finishes. Elsewhere, there’s a hefty range of handbags and luggage items, which includes custom Louis Vuitton suitcases, limited-edition Louis Vuitton briefcases, Hermès Birkin bags and more. In the art domain, various illustrations depict his longstanding relationships with cultural icons including Karl Lagerfeld, Diana Vreeland, Andy Warhol Anna Wintour and more.

The auction is set to go live Wednesday, February 15 with the proceeds benefitting Abyssinian Baptist Church in New York City and Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church in Durham, North Carolina. See the full collection online at Christie’s.

Paris Fashion Week Men’s Is in Full Swing

Paris Fashion Week Men’s kicked off on Tuesday of this week, and myriad brands have already sent their Fall/Winter 2023 collections down the runway.

Wales Bonner brought opulence to the glitterati, with a collection titled “Twilight Reverie” that included an adidas collaboration and honored the national football team of Jamaica. Matthew M. Williams reconstructed a new sense of formality for Givenchy, and Feng Chen Wang presented a collection that looked to ancient Chinese traditions. Rick Owens‘ “LUXOR” collection was filled with reductive, dark and avant-garde designs, while AMI debuted a range that was clean and city-ready. Elsewhere, Colm Dillane made his debut as the first designer to co-create a collection for Louis Vuitton post-Virgil Abloh, and Kim Jones unveiled a Dior collection that pays homage to the late Yves Saint Laurent.

Paris Fashion Week Men’s will continue through Sunday, January 22. Stay up to date, here.

Milan Fashion Week Men’s Concluded

Milan Fashion Week Men’s came to a close earlier this week. During the showcase, Gucci showed a collection that threw it back to Tom Ford‘s Y2K era, the ’80s and OG House codes, and Emporio Armani leaned into an aviation theme with a bevy of flight-ready garments. Silvia Venturini Fendi showcased the power of textures for Fendi, while Prada served “futurism, ’60s space age, aggression and cleansing.” JW Anderson advised that “we shouldn’t be scared of subversion” for this season; Our Legacy embraced indie sleaze, and Dsquared2 sent goths, geeks and it-boys to the rodeo.

All that and much more, here.

Colm Dillane Revealed Plans to Stage a Star-Studded Comedy Show for KidSuper FW23

In conversation with UpNextDesigner’s Albert Ayal on Instagram Live on Tuesday evening, designer Colm Dillane revealed that his KidSuper Fall/Winter 2023 runway will include a full-blown comedy show.

“It is a comedy show,” Dillane told Ayal of what to expect from his independent label’s runway, which is scheduled to take place during Paris Fashion Week on January 21 at 9 p.m. CT. “So all the models are comedians. They come out, they do a joke and they go back out.”

Without giving too much away, Dillane disclosed that a majority of the cast will be English-speaking, aside from one French comedian. “The comments are going crazy about Andrew Schulz, and they’re not wrong,” he added, confirming that Schulz will appear in the comedy-special fashion show. He later confirmed that several commenters’ big-name guesses were also correct, though he did not explicitly state which comedians he was referencing in the flood of comments. According to Número Magazine, the show will feature boxer Mike Tyson and American comedians Jeff Ross and Stavros Halkias.

Penélope Cruz, Dua Lipa, Roger Federer and Michaela Coel Will Co-Chair This Year’s Met Gala

This week, Vogue announced that Penélope Cruz, Dua Lipa, Roger Federer and Michaela Coel will co-chair this year’s Met Gala, alongside Anna Wintour, who has led the event since 1995.

This year, fashion’s biggest night will honor the game-changing works of Karl Lagerfeld, with an emphasis on his famous sketches. The exhibition, formally titled “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty,” will open at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York in Spring 2023.

Additionally, one of Lagerfeld’s favorite architects, Tadao Ando, will design the showcase. Andrew Bolton and Wendy Yu will lead the project, which, according to Anna Wintour, was developed shortly after Lagerfeld’s death in 2019.

Aries Debuted a Photo Zine With Mia Khalifa

Mia Khalifa, crowned the number one Emerging Influencer by the PR firm Karla Otto, is now the face of her own zine, which was unveiled during a party in Paris on Wednesday, thanks to its creator, Aries.

Shot by Clare Shilland and Conor Cunningham on Whitstable beach in Eastern England, and also in Khalifa’s home in the town, the zine pictures fashion’s newest it-girl in the British fashion label’s latest designs. Among them, she shows off the brand’s “No Problemo” T-shirts, cropped tie-dye tops, lace lingerie and a campy penis costume.

The zine is now available on Aries’ website for £18 GBP (approx. $22 USD).

Burberry Planted Its Emblematic Check in Heritage-Inspired Locations Across the Globe

Maintaining its connection to the Earth, Burberry Landscapes is a sustainable series of grand natural artworks made in partnership with Burberry’s creative community. In its latest iteration, the series tells the tales of adventurer Elsie Burberry — the daughter-in-law of the label’s founder, Thomas Burberry — and path-forging aviator Betty Kirby-Green, who led expeditions from Britain to the Canary Islands and South Africa, respectively. In both locations, Burberry Landscapes has touched down.

On El Hierro’s volcanic grounds in the Canary Islands, the emblematic Burberry Check appears painted across its natural canvas like a sprawled blanket. Done by Cuban-American contemporary artist Jorge Rodriguez-Gerada, the eco-friendly illustration was created with natural milk-based paint, which can be carefully washed away with manual turning, wind and local water sources.

In South Africa, the Burberry Check meadow appeared in Western Cape, near the exact location where Kirby-Green and flying officer Arthur Clouston landed the Burberry plane in 1973. Hand-planted by local green teams, the meadow was carefully incubated with water from a rainfall catchment dam.
