Jonathan Anderson Previews JW Anderson x Wellipets Frog Shoes
Bringing heritage rainboots into the spotlight.
JW Anderson founder and Creative Director, Jonathan Anderson has posted a picture of what seems to be a collaboration between his eponymous label and heritage rainboots brand Wellipets.
Founded in the United Kingdom, Wellipets was the first company to mix the traditional Wellington rain boot with a playful element, the frog. With a rich history that dates back to 1983, Princess Diana famously dressed her children, Prince William and Harry, in the green rubber boots which charmed their way beyond the U.K. to enthusiasts across Europe and Japan. Anderson’s take on the Wellipets chops the rainboots down to the ankles while maintaining the signature frog-faced toe section.
The frog wellies today continue to be made in Italy by experienced craftsmen featuring a waterproof PVC shell and a footbed made of a blend of recycled wool and recycled polyester. Intelligent choice of materials and construction allows for the pairs to be refurbished multiple times before they’re sent to be recycled into brand-new pairs. Facial details including the wide yellow eyes and red lips are all hand-painted.
Beyond the teaser, no additional details have emerged yet of the collaboration. Stay tuned for more.
