Collaborative juggernaut JJJJound welcomes
While the pair has been teased and seen in some detail before, it’s only until now that we really get to see the unique touches of this pair up close. Justin Saunders‘ label takes the 2000s running sneaker and applies its signature on the lateral rear-quarter of the right foot, contrasting the left foot’s GEL-KAYANO 14 branding in the same retro-futuristic font.
This theme of new and old can be found throughout the collaborative offering, with a white mesh base forming the underlayer for a melange of silver leather and reflective detailing. The result is a sneaker that looks as if it’s come from the Y2K running scene, but also a pair fit for today, as creamy hues on the GEL and TRUSSTIC support system-equipped sole unit don’t just offer comfort, but also a clean cut to the OG undertones.
Details are small, but appreciated. ASICS branding works the tongues while dual branding can be found across the “Dope Dyed Sockliners,” adding a darker tone of gray than anything found on the shoe’s exterior. What can’t be seen in most images is that the silver overlay is almost metal-like in its texture, sporting microscopic grains for something that looks as if it could be made from aluminum. Likewise, black accents are highlighted with gray detailing for another sense of multidimensional treatment.
Altogether, the ASICS GEL-KAYANO 14 has never looked better, and that’s all because of JJJJound’s simplistic influence. Take a look at the images above, and be sure to cop the pair on August 26 from ASICS’ website and on August 30 from HBX for £150 GBP/€160 EUR or approximately $180 USD.
