'TAGGED' Takes a Look at John Mayer’s Epic Watch Collection
The musician’s multi-million dollar collection covers everything from vintage grails to modern halo pieces.
John Mayer might have bought himself a Rolex with his first big record label paycheck, but he has admitted that the ‘collector bug’ didn’t bite until he picked up an IWC Big Pilot some years later.
Since then his collection has ballooned into a world-class assembly of horological heavy-hitters, covering off multiple examples of the Rolex Cosmograph Daytona including ‘Paul Newman’ variants, customized Disney-themed pieces and even one configuration that now carries his the musician’s name among fellow collectors.
While Mayer’s wrist rotation includes numerous Submariners - including sought after Comex derived models – and GMT-Master IIs, his collection stretches far beyond Rolex.
Some of the most popular posts on Mayer’s watch-heavy social media accounts feature the star wearing some of his extensive collection of Audemars Piguet Royal Oaks – often when he’s performing on stage – including tourbillons, perpetual calendars and chronographs, even pieces from Audemars Piguet’s experimental Concept line.
Much like his Rolex collection, Mayer’s collection of Patek Philippe pieces also covers the entire spectrum of the Swiss brand’s collection; from sporty Aquanauts to haute horlogerie perpetual calendars by way of dressy Calatravas.
But like most watch aficionados, it doesn’t always have to be about five or six-figure purchases, Mayer is known to wear Tudor and is so fond of Casio’s G-SHOCK that he’s collaborated with the Japanese brand twice.
