Patcharavipa Drops Customized Couture Vintage Piaget and Rolex Ring Watches at DSML
Alongside a reworked Rolex Oysterdate and Rolex Cellini Midas.
Patcharavipa has been making jewelry since she was 13 years old, and following a formal education at Central Saint Martins, the Thailand native now introduces her new line of vintage customized watches — notably focusing on Rolex and Piaget for Dover Street Market London.
The new collection follows on from last August’s drop, which saw the designer combine traditional Thai craftsmanship and design methodology with the Haute horology of these classic timepieces. This time around, Patcharavipa takes things to the next level with five completely unique and incredibly intriguing redesigns, which see not just wristwatches but also ring watches.
Ring watches are nothing new, in fact, they’re rather historic. The first ring watch reported was made in the 1750s, and by the 1900s, Swiss watchmakers were able to create ring watches that could run for 46 hours without being wound. Now, they come in the form of Rolex, crafted using 18 carat white or yellow gold with crystal glass covering the intricate and dainty face.
To accomplish this, Patcharavipa has taken the face from vintage Rolex watches and embedded them inside a custom ring design, adding the Rolex crown winder on the side to keep its watch credentials intact.
Aside from these, you’ll find a vintage Rolex Oysterdate that’s reworked with a solid white gold strap, sitting alongside its original stainless steel case. Decorating the piece is 18k white gold plating on the silver bracelet, a matching 34mm bezel and crystal glass. Additionally, the collection includes a Rolex Cellini Midas with 18k yellow gold and a brown crocodile bracelet, while a final watch, a Piaget Polo that happens to be the most expensive piece in the drop, gets a new custom gold strap to match its original 18k yellow gold case and face.
Patcharavipa’s Couture collection can be seen in the gallery above and bought at Dover Street Market London’s store and online now. Prices range from £18,000 GBP to £36,000 GBP (approx. $21,500 — $43,000 USD).
