Orior's New Soho Flagship is a "Love Letter" to its Beginnings

Irish brand Orior has unveiled its new Soho flagship showroom in New York, which features handcrafted details, marble floors, and grand archways designed by its in-house team of craftspeople and designers.

Orior was founded by Brian and Rosie McGuigan in 1979. The pair had been designing furniture in Copenhagen together, and upon returning to Ireland set up their own brand – working alongside nearby craftspeople to produce pieces made from local materials. Today, their son Ciaran sits at the helm of the brand as Creative Director and has brought it into the modern-day, while staying true to the Scandinavian-Irish aesthetic that provided inspiration for its very first collections.

Part of Ciaran’s evolution has taken the brand stateside, and in New York, its Soho showroom provides a space for clients and passers-by to experience the Orior collections, but also the fundamentals that sit at the core of everything it does.

He said:

“The evolution of Orior over the past three years can be attributed to the collective efforts of many incredibly talented and dedicated craftspeople and designers.

The response we have received from design lovers all of the world has been unbelievably energizing and it feels like we are only just beginning.”

Inside, a series of oak archways handmade in Ireland are used to frame different rooms. Each is furnished with pieces from the Orior collection – including classic pieces such as the Bianca Chair, Mara Credenza and Easca Coffee Table, the Objects series, and new works. Clothes by Ciaran’s sister, fashion desinger Katie Ann McGuigan will also be on display.

Custom floor tiles made from marbles that have become synonmyous with the Orior aesthetic have been used to line the entryway, while solid oak and antique brass have been used to create a suspended platform. n.

“The space was designed and crafted by the same brilliant individuals who create our furniture. It represents our attention to detail and the bold design gestures Orior has become known for,” Ciaran added. “The marble mosaic floors, oak archways and antique brass drop ceiling all echo the materials found in our collection – it’s a love letter to Orior.”

While Orior has lasered its focus onto the US, Danish brand Muuto has looked a little closer to home with its latest showroom unveiling, which is located in the heart of Copenhagen.
