Peter Moore, former adidas and designer of the Air Jordan 1 and Jumpman logo, has died.
Moore has long been categorized as an industry pioneer, with his creations worn across the globe and are now synonymous with footwear and sports culture. In his career, he served as Nike‘s first global creative director, playing an instrumental role in the evolution of sneakes. In a statement, Howard “H” White, Jordan Brand vice president said,
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of Peter Moore, an iconic designer, whose legacy will forever be connected to Jordan Brand, and the sneaker culture he helped to create.
We extend our deepest sympathies to the Moore family during this time.”
The Air Jordan 1s, which made its debut in 1985, was spearheaded by Moore himself and continues to be one of the most sought-after silhouettes in the sneaker world. Many of the pairs are sold for astronomical numbers on the secondary market, showing that the demand for the shoes are still at an all-time high. Moore’s pivotal role with Nike can be summed up in D’Wayne Edwards words, “Without him there is no Jordan Brand.” Ron Dumas, who worked with Moore at Nike called the designer’s efforts the foundation of Nike’s ubiquitous branding.
