Following the “Universal Communications” collection debut last October, Salehe Bembury revisits the New Balance 574 YURT silhouette this Spring with three new colorways. The 574 YURT takes very little from the classic 574 silhouette, completely overhauling the sneaker for an unconventional outdoor-optimized design. Uppers arrive in a mix of hairy suede, offset leather panels, and layered mesh with a functioning whistle secured to the heel of the sneakers.

“You already need many different tools when venturing outdoors,” Bembury said of the design. “The New Balance 574 YURT was created so that you don’t have to worry about remembering every item, because we’ve merged two into one with a whistle on the sneaker.”

YURT tags decorate the foam tongue, Salehe Bembury fabric tags are stitched along the laterals, and New Balance‘s defining “N” logo appears in leather on the lateral and medial sides. Below, a stacked midsole combines NB’s ABZORD SBS and RollBar plate technology with Pill-shaped fixtures appearing on the heel. An extended speckled rubber outsole completes the look.

The three new colorways are shown supersized in different natural backdrops including the forest, tundra, and beach, hinting at the outdoor inspirations behind each iteration.

Bembury’s new “Universal Communication” New Balance 574 YURT colorways are now available exclusively on the designer’s Be A Spunge website for $150 USD.
