Pusha T gave fans a clear explanation of what happened to his supposed Madlib-produced album during the premiere of his It’s Almost Dry Radio show on Amp.

Moderator Noah Callahan-Bever revealed on Twitter that the record was put in the back burner because King Push wanted a “more hands on” approach in order to surpass DAYTONA. Push said he got sent a folder of dope loops from Madlib, kinda like, ‘do your thing!’ But he felt like the only way to top Daytona was to allow himself to really be produced in a more hands on way, so he decided to go in a different direction (sitting with Ye and P) for this 1,” Callahan-Bever tweeted.

Elsewhere in the episode, Push also revealed the origins of It’s Almost Dry, “The project got started from me playing “Hear Me Clearly” for Pharrell…And he told me that, it was okay. He shrugged….He said, ‘Man I just think that you need to be more of a character.’” He continued, “I told myself, once it was etched in stone that [Pharrell and Kanye] would each produce half of the album, I was going to go through the process. Whatever their process is, I’m going to go through it in full to make sure I have exhausted whatever they wanted to do. I wanted it to be produced because my biggest thing was making an album better than Daytona.”

It’s Almost Dry dropped last Friday and features guest appearances from producers Ye and Pharrell, JAY-Z, Kid Cudi, NIGO, Lil Uzi Vert, Don Toliver, Labrinth and King Push’s brother Malice. It is expected to debut at No. 1 on next week’s Billboard 200.

Elsewhere in music, Tyler, the Creator’s CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST Tour is now the highest-grossing hip-hop tour of the post-pandemic era.
